Had a great time with Usha and B. Lalitha on New year eve in Ambedkar Nagar, Adambakkam along with our new found friends. Apart from several nice general discussions , we came up with a Livelihood plan. 30 women there, all agreed to our suggestion to form a Thrift Society and start contributing Rs200/- per month. They realized they can collect Rs6000/- per month this way and help a couple of very destitute women immediately. They were earlier selling idlis but had lost their belongings including their stoves and grinders. And they also needed a small capital to buy the initial ingredients like rice, black grams etc. The smile on that women’s face was a priceless gift. Their leader Chinna Thambi about whom I had written earlier, promised to get everything we discussed implemented within a week. We told them once the thrift society takes off we will pitch with some seed money so that more people can get loans. The discussions were very satisfying as we were able to suggest the same model to a group in Pulianthope. Here are some photographs of friends from Adambakkam.
