The primary objective of Lokalex is ‘Achieveing Gram Swaraj’. Lokalex aims at empowering members of local and marginalized rural communities to improve quality of life by exchanging within themselves what they produce. We at Lokalex partner with local villagers, NGOs, Panchayats and institutions to set-up and support local centres, enterprises, institutions, self help groups, etc in the sectors of Education, Health, Agriculture, Sanitation and Nutrition.
The Trust is based at Chennai and and has been working in the marginalized areas of Chennai, Karaikal, Dindigul, Theni, Dharmapuri, Thiruvallur, Namakkal and Salem in Tamil Nadu and in the H.D Kote District of Karnataka. Our partners have been Tiruvalluvar Ethics Educational Service Trust, Gandhigram Trust, India Nirman Sangh, Mahalir Munnetra Sangam, Digital Empowerment Foundation, Tribal Health Initiative, Trust for Village Self Governance and Sri Ganapathy Vilas Middle School, Vana Vani Vidyalaya and Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement. We also have plans to adopt a village, Kadakam, near Karaikal, where all these projects in Education, Agriculture, Health and Nutrition and sanitation can be replicated to make the village self sufficient.
